COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The ability to engage and enable communities enhancing the control over their lives, through the development of its resources in order to face juvenile crime and social gang issues (adapted from: Center for the Study of Social Policy, 2011).

PROFICIENCY LEVELS

* Proficiency Level – the level of competency proficiency one must command to successfully perform job functions in a gang related context

Understands different cultural dynamics in communities afflicted with gangs;
Understands gang afflicted community needs;
Influences the community with targeted and appropriated actions, in the gang context;
Manages efficiently the community resources (facilities, funds, existing networks, etc.), to fight gang affiliation/involvement;
Promotes effective actions in order to face gangs’ problems;
Interacts with communities afflicted by gangs;
Encourages children and youth to participate in social, civic and work life, in order to fight gang involvement;
Connects with experts in the field in order to develop new practices and apply them in a gang context;
Manages the different networks among stakeholders in communities afflicted by gangs;
Plans and manages the engagement of communities, to fight the gang culture/affiliation;
Develops new strategies and practices and applies them to gang environments;
He/she is recognised as a stakeholder for gang issues.
