YOUTH MENTORING

Ability to provide support and guidance in order to empower youngsters involved in gang cultures/contexts to make good decisions, maintaining a prosocial approach involving young people in their communities in a
productive and constructive manner (adapted from: Winton, 2014).

PROFICIENCY LEVELS

* Proficiency Level – the level of competency proficiency one must command to successfully perform job functions in a gang related context

Interacts empathically with youth involved in gang culture and understands their needs and problems;
Knows the local context and environment where the gangs are embedded (cultural background);
Transfers previous experiences and acquired knowledge (either in other correlated fields) achieved in gang’s context;
Influences attitudes and behaviours of youth embedded in gang contexts, empowering their actions;
Influences attitudes and behaviours of youth embedded in gang contexts, empowering their actions;
Plans and manages the needed activities with the available resources within gang contexts;
Adapts the intervention to gang contexts according to the available resources;
Networks with other relevant stakeholders/institutions/local communities, in order to increase youth mentoring feasibility, in gang contexts.
Organises specific activities, in gang environments, appealing to young people;
Promotes youngsters’ pro-social approaches in gang context/culture;
Plans and implements different and useful mentoring activities for youngsters in gang contexts;
Manages different tools for measurement of achieved results in communities afflicted with gangs.
